Kroda - Fimbulvinter (2007)

'Fimbulvinter' is the latest effort by the Ukrainian pagan black metal band Kroda. They specialise in playing epic songs of considerable length, spiced with some folkloric elements. Despite their underground status, the production is surprisingly clear and relatively polished. Due to the length of the songs (averaging well past the ten minute mark) a lot of variety is needed and given. Alternating between raw black metal parts, softer melodic parts with folky elements like flute, clean, Viking styled vocals renders the music quite enjoyable throughout. Fans of their fellow countrymen Drudkh will probably find this appealing too.

Myrkgrav - Trollskau, Skrømt Og Kølabrenning

Myrkgrav is a one-man band from Norway. The only real member is Lars Jensen, and he plays most of the instruments himself (including guitars, drums, keys and bass). He also handles the unclean vocals himself. He writes all lyrics, music and arrangements for the band. He records most of his music in his own "Koia Studios".

Velvet Cacoon - Genevieve (2004)

Velvet Cacoon is an ambient black metal band from Portland, Oregon. For a long time this band was shrouded in a veil of mysticism where stories of unreleased material, eco-fascistic activism, and other bizarre rumours were originated mostly from the band themselves, and propagated by a willing Internet black metal community. Even though most of the mysticism behind Velvet Cacoon was recently revealed to be mostly hoaxes and untruths in an interview with the Italian 'zine Elskrin, Velvet Cacoon should not be considered a joke band
